Thousands of ‘cockroach’ protesters march towards India’s parliament

  • Thousands are attempting to march to India’s parliament after the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) called a protest demanding reforms to the education system
  • The protest site is packed with demonstrators, while hundreds of police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed
  • Tensions escalated on Saturday after police forcibly hospitalised activist and educator Sonam Wangchuk , who was on the 21st day of a hunger strike in support of the CJP
  • Delhi Police say the march has not been granted permission, but CJP leaders say they will proceed anyway
  • Despite its name, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is not a political party. It began as a satirical campaign but has since gained a massive following
